Which dental crowns have the best quality and price?

March 19, 2013

Q: What are the best crowns and prices?

A: The best crowns that you can have made should have a precious metal core and be covered with porcelain. All-gold crowns are also at the top of the list. These two types of crowns will last longer and give more protection than any other crowns on the market.

The average price of an all-gold crown or a porcelain fused to high noble metal crown will range anywhere from $800 to about $1500, depending on where you live. Beware of the office-made Cerec crowns which are made in one day. These crowns -- as well as the all-porcelain crowns -- have a tendency to fracture, and when they do the tooth structure underneath is exposed.

With an all-metal or porcelain-fused-to-metal crown, you will always have protection even if the porcelain breaks.
