Kate McCoy has a master's degree in counseling (M.Ed.), and she's also one of the featured caring Experts in the JustAnswer Relationship Care Package.

Below she shares some helpful insights about romance and making relationships work.

JustAnswer: How would you describe your occupation?

Kate McCoy: Therapy is using your skills, education, knowledge and experience to help people to better understand themselves and their relationships.

Finish this sentence: The single most important thing that makes a relationship last is ...

Trust.

What's the most romantic gift you've ever received?

Anything that was given in love!

What's the best type of first date?

One where both people are open to learning about each other.

What's your favorite romantic movie or novel?

Pride and Prejudice, by Jane Austen.

What's your biggest relationship pet peeve?

Domestic abuse. It hurts everyone involved.

When dating someone new, what form of communication do you think is best (phone, e-mail, text, in-person, etc.)?

In person is the best, followed by phone contact. Whenever you can have conversations where you can hear the other person's voice, you gain so much more insight into who they are.
