My garage door opener only works sometimes. Why?

September 24, 2012

Q: My Genie Intellicode garage door opener works intermittently. At times the unit just clicks when any remote or wall switch is hit. Other times it works correctly. What's the problem?

A: The clicking noise typically means that you have a bad logic board, and it could be starting to go bad, either by corrosion or loose wiring. Unfortunately, a new logic board costs about $70.

If your opener is older than 10 years, I would recommend putting that money towards a new opener.
