Q: My TV is a Dynex model DX-46L150 A11 46" flat screen, about two years old. There was a power outage recently (lightning hit close when all power went out). Since then I have a perfect picture but no sound. I have checked set up and mute buttons. Any ideas?
A: Have you gone into the menu and performed a reset? I don't recall the exact verbiage of Dynex's menu, but you'll know it when you see it. It probably won't help, but it's worth a shot. Also, please ensure you've disconnected the TV and the DIRECTV box from power for at least 5 minutes, to allow a reboot.
If you've done this and the no-sound issue persists, the most probable cause is a damaged main board, aka input/output board. That's where all the sound processing occurs.
For the DX-46L150A11, you can get a used main board (with warranty) in the $90-$110 range. If you order it and replace it yourself, yes, I think it would be cost-effective.
