How do I get my TV to stream shows from the Web?

June 13, 2013

Q: How do I hook up for Netflix TV series programs? I have a Sony Bravia TV and Dynex DVD player (Model Dx-DVD2).

A: Neither your TV or your DVD player seem to have Internet network connectivity. There are solutions for this.

Solution 1: You can purchase a Blu-ray player with network streaming.

Solution 2 (my preferred method): Purchase a streaming media player. Sony makes a streaming media player that has tons of channels. You can even view movies and listen to music that is stored on your computer with this little box. Here is the link.

It's a little box about 4" x 4" x 1.5". It connects to your wireless network. You plug in the power cord, plug in the box to your TV with an HDMI cable, and you're ready to stream Netflix, Hulu, and lots of other channels. You have to have a streaming Netflix account to use the Netflix channel, of course.

There are other boxes out there like Apple TV, Roku, and others, but I have found the Sony SMP N200 to be the easiest to set up, the most reliable, and it seems to work better than the more costly brands.
