Q: What is the best camera for a novice to purchase with the intent to blow the images up to as large as 16×20 photos?

A: If you are looking for something simple, in the point-and-shoot category, the camera that has the best picture quality, in my opinion, is the Panasonic Lumix DMC-ZS1- 14.1 MP Digital Camera with 16X Wide Angle Optimal Image Stablized Zoom and Built-in GPS Function.

(There is also a newer version of the camera here, and it’s more expensive.)

At 14 megapixels it will still look great at 16×20. The camera has good image stabilization, and the lens is flexible, including wide-angle.

If you are looking for something a little more sophisticated, like a digital SLR, I can recommend one or two, but they have quite a learning curve. With the point-and-shoot Lumix you can take great pictures the day you take it out of the box.

If you click on the link, you'll see the price. It was on sale ($218) when we posted the link, but since I don't know how long the sale lasts I didn't want to publish a price that wouldn't be true.
